Most people consider watching movies an enjoyable pastime. Some of us prefer action flicks where our butts are at the edge of our seats, wondering what mister macho man is going to get himself into next. Others enjoy horror films where, with our hands covering our mouths (or eyes), we apprehensively watch what happens to the victims of the plot and predict who is going to lose their head next. Comedies, whether they be romantic comedies or simply the kind that are hilarious to watch and bring out our most embarrassing chuckles, cannot be left out of this broad list.

Growing up, every child had the ambition to become a superhero, whether it was Batman or Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, that dream got pushed to the side along with being a princess or a Transformer. We grew up and became more realistic successes, going to school or working, becoming contributing members of society.

I have been thinking a lot about honesty nowadays. There are some definite answers I can think of for some honesty issues, such as the issue of saying “no” that I have written about in my previous blog post. But there are some problems that I struggle with because I can’t find an answer with which I am completely satisfied. One of these problems lies in everyday conversations. For example, how do you pay honest attention when the other person is pouring out to you their entire life story, yet it simply does not interest you? What if you think that what they are saying is trivial, obvious, or cumbersome?

Yes, I know, the summer months are best spent soaking up sun and finding outdoor activities that will be barred during the winter months. It can also be, for those who are unemployed or on school break, a time of malaise and boredom. This mixed with the fact that the best of tv programming is on hiatus can mean some dull summer nights spent watching re-runs of America’s Funniest Home Videos. But fear not, if you’re looking for a new show to get you through the summer months, there is some genuinely good programming on out there, here are some of my favorites:
